The state of the Game

Source: City of Johannesburg Website

How much has changed since the article referenced by the link above was written? Or better yet, since The Muthaload......Le club......Murder was case.......Bronx boots.......V.O.S and Zac.....Black Sundayz....P.O.C.....DJ Blaze? Aint sh*t has changed!!!I get irritated at how heads will run out of good things to say about the current state of local hip-hop and start referrencing the "Golden Era" again and again.

Its 14, 15 yearz l8r and you still find anomalies like "Hammer", cats who's existance is hated and is found difficult to understand by most in the game. If u r undaground and u blow up, u still get hate from da people who blew you up. There are cats from the golden age who were dope and broke, well they aint dope no more and they still broke. Its been so long and we still dont know how to make loot from this sh*t.
For crying out loud, the 1st mixtape to officially come out was badly marketed.....the trend continues for most o'da good albums I know. Cats r rediscovering what they already knew: "DONT QUIT YO DAY JOB NIGGA!!!! Thats the formula".
The reason why hip hop still dont make ends meet is because "we aint done sh*t"!

  1. We still dont have real established recording labels that r just hip hop.

  2. We still cant distribute our own sh*t.

  3. Some of us still think we are in the STATES!

  4. There's still not enuff female Mc's.

  5. Hip hop shows, pro and amature, still battle with good sound.

  6. Niggaz with ghost writers still make the most loot, "God be us".

  7. Jo'burg and Cape Town..........."Have u ever heard of an Mc from Pietersburg?". Biggup to Maftown

  8. Vernac and English raps, (I'll write about this one on its own).

  9. People are still insitsting that hip hop is dead. "as 4 me, I aint sayin rap is dead: there just aint much of it here".

  10. Veterans that deserve all the glory are still getting the cold shoulder.

I shall finish this blog at my earliest convinience.

In the meantime, please let your views be heard?
